Shadow of the Sphinx is a short silent film that accompanies the Spinnenweber stage play, Murder at the Movies, produced by R-ACT Theatre Productions.
In Murder at the Movies a director tries to recreate and complete the movie “The Shadow of the Sphinx”. Originally a silent film, production halted on the movie 95 years ago when the director died suddenly. This short film that plays at the beginning, intermission, and completion of Murder at the Movies is meant to portray the only footage remaining from the original (fictitious) 1920s version of The Shadow of the Sphinx.
The Shadow of the Sphinx was filmed on January 18, 2020 at Segriff Stage in Rochester and debuted on screen at Rochester Borough Theater during R-ACT’s February 2020 production of Murder at the Movies, written and directed by Larry Spinnenweber.

“Come see Dexter Reilly try to complete ninety-five year old film, “The Shadow of the Sphinx”. With his cast and crew all on the sound stage he is ready to finish what famed director Abel Gardner died trying to direct. Will the production run smoothly…or is there a mummy’s curse on the whole show?”
